I’ve come to the conclusion that some people enjoy crowds and others don’t. I fall squarely into the latter category. I not only dislike crowds I get physically sick if I have to spend too much time in one. My heart rate increases, my blood pressure rises, and in extreme cases I start to have anxiety attacks. This makes attending something like Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest a downright unpleasant and physically exhausting experience.
I guess this is why I gravitate towards natural places like National Parks or Wildlife Refuges. I would rather spend Mardi Gras doing a hike up the Saddleback Trail from Lake Louise in Banff, Alberta way more than navigate a crowd full of drunks on Bourbon Street. Listening to the thunderous sound of thousands of geese lifting off from Bosque Del Apache is preferable to anything on the lineup at Jazz Fest. I don’t know why I’m this way and to be honest I like it this way and have no interest in changing.
So do you like crowds or are you like me and break into cold sweats at the thought of them. Tell me in the comments.
